Poor-Man's Mag Cinch

If you're like me, you don't like getting frustrated in the field. It can be a very difficult skirmish when you realize you keep running out of ammo before the opposing force. Standard capacity magazine for the most wonderful airsoft assault rifles are, without a doubt, very dependable. However, they leave something to be desired when you experience first hand just how quickly these guns empty the 70 (or so) rounds. One option is to purchase high capacity magazines. With the Tokyo Marui AK hi-cap toting a heavy 600 rounds, one might think that these are always the way to go... they probably are. But what if you've already got a bunch of standard caps in your LBE. Well, this may be the cheap and quick way to help your firepower dilema.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • ELECTRICAL TAPE:  (3m is best)
  • SCISSORS
  • HEAVY SCOTCH-BRITE PADS: Used for sanding and polishing metal, can be found at any hardware store.

OPTIONAL:

  • L.B.E. BANDS: just to dress things up
  •  C-CLAMP: or other quick-grip device to speed things up and help out with alignment.

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1 AND 2:  Cut a piece of the scotch-bright pad about 3"x4". Don't bother measuring for an exact size, just eyeball it. Then, fold the piece over twice. It should now look like the pic on the right.

STEP 3 AND 4:   Tape down your pad to the mag down near the bottom. Repeat steps 1 and 2 and add another piece of folded pad to the top of the mag but make sure to leave enough room for the mag to fit into the magwell.

STEP 5 AND 6:  Step 5 is really optional but if you like, tidy up the pads with more tape so they can't be seen along the edges. Then, line up your magazines so they "sit" properly side by side.

STEP 7 AND 8:  This tool really helps keep things in place. Compress the mags and begin wrapping the electrical tape around the magazines... 6 to 10 wraps is fine.

You can dress the mags up with LBE bands if you like. Pretty cool, huh?!?

Another type of tape that can be utilized is the standard O.D."hi-speed" military tape. Not only can you use it to keep the mags together, but I also recommend using it to protect the top of your secondary mag... keeping dirt and rain out of your magazine is always a good thing! The photo on the lower right shows that your selector switch will no longer be able to fire semi-auto. Only "safe" and "full auto" will be available. No problem!!

Oh yeah, this is important - be sure your mag pouches will accommodate 2 mags with some extra space. My Artkis Advanced Chest Rig will allow the mags in this configuration with no trouble. I can fit 8 of these bad boys. Not bad!

Ready for action! You just gotta love the AK-47!!!
