Medikit

As you pack for your next skirmish, one thing to keep in mind is personal safety. OK, sure - you've got a nice pair of ballistic goggles (ansi rated) but you might want to consider some basic preparedness for the most common health problem in the woods... a nasty cut! A cut might not sound serious but after 4 or 6 hours without treatment, a bacteria filled gouge can lead to infection and problems you do NOT want!

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 small bottle of iodine.
  • 1 small tube of antibiotic ointment.
  • 1 roll of waterproof medical tape.
  • 3 or 4 pieces of 4' x 4' gauze.
  • 1 small pouch to carry it all in.

The iodine is to help wash out a serious cut and kill all bacteria that got in there from that nasty branch or rock. The ointment will keep infection at bay for several hours. The gauze is to stop the bleeding and the tape is to keep the gauze in place.

I like to keep the gauze in a plastic sandwich bag to keep it nice and dry.

You can probably make your medkit smaller than mine but I'm perfectly satisfied with this one. Everything stuffs nicely into this great pouch I had in my gear box. (special thanks to our buddie Frank!)

Charged batteries, mags to capacity, and a little piece of mind!

I tuck my kit away in my vest - out of the way but I make sure I can get to it in a hurry. One thing to remember, it might be you that gets hurt but it might not be you that can help you. It might be someone else that has to get into your gear and find "that little pack at the bottom".

Make sure it stays accessable and remember exactly where you store it.

Let's keep all our Comrades safe.
